Email Setup Guides

Below you will find information on multiple help topics regarding email setup and configuration for our customers for whom we host email services. We understand that this can be a confusing process for some people, which is why we have tried to highlight some of the more frequent email troubleshooting topics as well as detail some step-by-step instructions for many popular email clients that are on the market today. Feel free to dive into one of those configuration walkthroughs on the right, or you can browse the questions below which may help you understand what setting in particular you may need to look for.

Please Note: The mail.websolutions.com and mail.websolutions.net servers may be used interchangeably, and you may notice references to each within these guides. Please be aware that using the .com or .net servers will both work when configuring your mail settings.

Basic Configuration Information

Here is the basic information that you will need to set up your email. If you are otherwise familiar with email configuration, here is what you need to know in order to use your email hosted by Web Solutions.
  • Incoming (POP3) Server: mail.websolutions.net
  • Outgoing (SMTP) Server: mail.websolutions.net
  • Username is your full email address (user@domain.com)
  • Outgoing Server requires Authentication
  • "Use same settings as incoming server" must be checked in Outgoing Server Authentication preferences
  • Incoming (POP3) Port: 110
  • Outgoing (SMTP) Port: 2525

Troubleshooting Tips

I'm setting up a new install of [my email program]. What do I need to do?
The instructions for how to set up your email client vary depending on what program you are using. Please use the links in the guides toolbox, or choose from the list on the left-hand side of the page. Please ensure that you already have an email address and password assigned to you by someone from Web Solutions or someone at your own organization who may have the ability to create email accounts for your company.

I can receive email, but I can't send anything.
This is perhaps the most common problem that we support at Web Solutions. The short answer: you need to change your Outgoing Server (SMTP) port to 2525. Please review the links to the email setup guides and click the name of which email program you are using.

The long answer: Many ISP's (such as AT&T, Verizon, Cox) are beginning to monitor all network traffic that occurs on port 25, which is the standard SMTP (outgoing mail) port. Every ISP is different, and the reasons for why you may not be able to properly send mail the way you used to vary from ISP to ISP. Fortunately, we have a solution for you - by setting your SMTP (outgoing mail) port to 2525, you should be able to once again send mail properly since you will bypass any of the network traffic control that your ISP has instituted. If you do not know how to change this setting, please look through one of our online guides which will detail that step for your email client during the configuration process.

I can't receive or send any email, and I've already looked through the online guides.
Does Web Solutions host your email? This is the first question to confirm the answer to. While Web Solutions provides a good deal of services for over 400 clients, we do not provide email service for all of our customers. If we do provide you with email, this problem likely stems from one of two causes: a misconfiguration of your account on the mail server, or a misconfiguration of your email client (most often a simple typo). Please go back through your configuration and ensure that every field has the correct setting and has been spelled properly. It can also help if you attempt to log in to your account via Webmail to ensure your account is working properly. If you can log in via Webmail, your account is working properly and the issue is with the email client.

My email works fine when I'm at [Location 1], but I can't send email when I am at [Location 2]
This is actually the same issue as the one listed above. The reason your laptop may work in one location but not another could be due to the differing policies for SMTP traffic between the ISP you have at work and the ISP you have at home/school/your other location. However, setting your outgoing port to 2525 should ensure that no matter where you plug in, your email will always work the way you expect it to.

I can send email to other people in my company, but no one else / I get email errors about a "relay" problem
The Web Solutions mail server requires you to "authenticate" with it in order to send outgoing messages - this is a measure that we take to prevent spammers from using our system as a "relay" in sending messages for them. You will need to check the option "My Server Requires Authentication" in your SMTP (Outgoing Mail) properties. See the setup guides for specific instructions on how to do this for your mail client. Note: The reason you may be able to send to other people within your organization without this option checked is due to the fact that you and the recipient are both hosted in the same location. For this reason, you do not need to authenticate with the server since it will not try and send email to an external source.
