The Colchester Historical Society offers a diverse array of historical information including photographs, videos, documents and stories to increase awareness of the unique heritage and history of Colchester, CT, and the surrounding region.

The Colchester Historical Society had an existing website that was outdated in both design and technology, and wanted a new, modern site that was mobile-friendly and easy to update, with the ability to feature more historical photographs.

“We were looking for a new site that was responsive on all devices and was immediately engaging and easy to navigate,” said Gigi Liverant, Colchester Historical Society Programs and Outreach Chairman. “Our goal was to offer a new site that highlighted the diversity of the Colchester Historical Society archives of thousands of historic images that illustrate the evolving history of the town. As a source for Colchester history for educators, researchers and the general public, we wanted to make the images and stories easy to find.”

Web Solutions built a new website on its CMS v4 platform, with a fresh, engaging design, easy to edit home page callouts that offer quick and easy access to the most relevant pages, and the ability to add a customizable thumbnail photo gallery at the bottom of each page.

“The photo galleries provide an opportunity for visitors to view collections of photographs related to the many local stories breathing life into Colchester's history,” said Liverant. “A link to our 360 Virtual Museum Tour of the Colchester History Museum provides panoramic tours of the museum, and was not only an important asset during the pandemic shutdown but also provides a preview to individuals interested in visiting. The ability to expand and edit pages as needed lets us keep the site vibrant and engaging.”

“Having worked with Web Solutions as stewards of our previous site, we were confident that the site rebuild would progress smoothly and communication would be responsive. It was. The only development delays were caused by our need to prepare content for the expanded site pages. Our project representatives were available and responsive to our calls for action.”
